before- I think that Stalin was worse because he killed more people and he also killed them because they didn't agree with him. At least Hitler belived in what he was telling his people. He believed that the jews were an inferior race; it may be a messed up belief, but he beleived it.
after- I still think that Stalin is worse than Hitler. These public show trials and the secret trials of the generals provide only a faint idea of the extent of the Great Terror. Every member of Lenin's Politburo except Stalin and Trotsky were either killed or committed suicide to avoid execution. A partial list of those who ceased to exist would include:
--two vice-commissars of foreign affairs --most of the ambassadors in the Soviet diplomatic corps --numerous members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party --almost all the military judges who had sat in judgment and had condemned --the Red Army generals --two successive heads of the NKVD --the prime ministers and chief officials of all the non-Russian Soviet republics --the director of the Lenin Library --the man who had led the charge against the Winter Palace in 1917 --a 70 year old schoolteacher who owned a book which included a picture of Trotsky --an 85 year old woman who made the sign of the Cross when a funeral passed --a man who took down a portrait of Stalin while painting a wall
Stalin was the worst out of the two, because he killed more people without any warning. -atleast Hitler tried to ask other countries to take the jews; he told them what would be the result if they stayed, but no one took him serious! *Takeya
I am going to have to disagree with both takeya and Alyssa. Although Stalin ended up killing more people, the extent to which he commited these crimes were not as severe as to how Hitler commited them. Before he killed them, he tortured them severely, which is in my opinion much worse than just killing someone on the spot. In addition, he actually condoned violence by ordinary germans who wanted to act on their antisemitic.
The immense amount of emotional damage and post traumatic stress that he has causes to the jewish community weighs slightly more than Stalin's.
i must disagree because you have to think about how much fear there must have been in the Russian community during this time...To have the neighbor you were talking to about how great the weather was that day dissapeer as if he had never existed...you would wonder if you were next...nobody ever knew what was treason and what wasn't
While I agree that there was much fear in the Russian community as well, Hitler's evil plot was much more severe. Although he was a great leader, he was a criminal mastermind as well who carefully organized his heinous crime, thus, making him much worse than Stalin. It shouldn't matter about which leader ended up planning to kill more people.
But to kill people to get the vast majority to agree with you...?
Simple. Because Hitler is WAY more well known than Stalin. In practically every way Stalin was worse than Hitler, but we never fought a real war against Stalin. (Just the beginning of the Cold War).
As history passes, it matters not what really happened. It only matters who the good guy is and who the bad guy is. Hitler is the bad guy. Stalin gets forgotten.
Of course, this leads to problems because people see a Swastika and flip out. When people see my growing collection of books that happen to cover the most horrific events in history they somtimes get upset when they see all the Swastikas. These people are brain dead and simply assume I'm reading "hate books". In my experience, "hate" and "books" seldom go together. I think people want/need simple explanations to difficult problems. This is why Hitler is the worst dude in history (Christopher Columbus is directly responsible for more deaths than Hitler), Stalin is forgotten, and Columbus gets a national holiday.
To assure themselves of an endless supply of "traitors," the NKVD interrogators concentrated on two questions: "Who recruited you?" and "Whom did you recruit?" The "confessions" often doomed casual acquaintances, friends, and even family. Even at a time when the threat of war in Europe was rising, much of the military leadership - the only remaining base of potential opposition - was executed. It was at this point that Stalin's method began to show definite signs of madness. http://www.brama.com/ukraine/history/terror/index.html
I do agree that Stalin was forgotten somewhat, and Hitler was more so in the spotlight, but that still does not change anything. & They were both "bad" guys. The only difference is, one was completely racist, and killed people becuse they were jews, while the other one just killed people to stay in power. I would have done the same thing, If I were stalin, but I would NOT condone racism.
For the last time, it does not matter who killed more people. Additonally, Hitler started WWII, a day that still lives in infamy along with the first world war. The negative effects that he have impacted on our world and society are tremendously more significant that Stalin's, therefore, he was much worse than stalin.
Never before in history were hundreds of thousands of people torn away from their apartments, thrown into prison, subjected to torture, made to confess to crimes, and then either exterminated or sent to concentration camps. It is no surprise that today, even 60 years after the Great Terror, it is difficult for many people to address these questions calmly(rogovin).
AND he's russian, so of course his point of view would be biased. Did you find this on a website, where Hitler and Stalin were compared? Most likely not. So therefore, he wouldn't have discussed what Hitler did.
if this is going to be a discussion of hitler vs. stalin...let it be that... i am not battling you for who's right..i am exchanging my point of view with yours..this is not a battle...
